Carbon Project – Shasta Cascade Timberlands
About
The Shasta Cascade Timberlands (SCT), located in Northern California, is a key investment in the U.S. for New Forests’ and its clients. These forests are managed to generate high-integrity carbon credits and a sustainable supply of timber through improved forest management practices, contributing to climate mitigation and sustainable land use.
Key Initiative
In 2021, New Forests listed the SCT carbon project with the Climate Action Reserve, the first step in developing a carbon project in California for the California Cap and Trade compliance program. Since then, New Forests and its investors have developed and submitted for approval the carbon project on SCT, a process that has involved conducting new forest inventories, preparing verification documentation, and coordinating with third-party auditors to ensure compliance with the protocol standards. The initiative reflects the fund’s commitment to scaling nature-based climate solutions while maintaining rigorous oversight.
Impact
This expansion strengthens the fund’s contribution to carbon markets and enhances the long-term climate impact of the asset. It also reinforces New Forests’ leadership in delivering measurable, verifiable carbon outcomes through sustainable forestry.
Statistics
- Full project approval scheduled for Q4 2025
- Estimated carbon credit generation: Over 250,000 tonnes CO₂ each year
