Unlocking the multiple layers of value across agriculture
Agriculture is an important part of NEWFORESTS’ approach to Natural Capital investing. Since 2010, we have managed agriculture alongside forestry and other land-based investments, building experience in productive landscapes and identifying opportunities to optimise land use for long-term value.
Agricultural land sits at the intersection of some of the world’s most fundamental needs: producing food, fibre and renewable materials from a finite base of productive land and natural resources. For investors, it combines productive real assets with biological production, with value created through agricultural output, land appreciation and active operational management.
We invest across row cropping, horticulture, and livestock seeking diversification across commodities, geographies, production systems and revenue sources.
Through regional investment strategies and bespoke separately managed accounts, we provide institutional investors with access to a range of agriculture markets and opportunities.
Our approach focuses on enhancing the productive capacity and resilience of the land over the long term.
We apply sustainability minimum standards and, where appropriate, regenerative and precision land-management practices that seek to improve soil health, water efficiency, biodiversity, carbon outcomes and climate resilience. These are not separate from investment performance: stewardship of soil and water can directly influence productivity, resilience and the long-term value of agricultural assets.
By combining agricultural production with active management and the broader opportunities available across natural capital, we seek to create resilient portfolios that generate long-term value while supporting the productive landscapes on which food systems ultimately depend.
